As it usually happens, in cases like this, it all started with an innocent comment across the Abronzino family dinner table…
“Dad, you should sell your Jamaican Jerk Sauce… it’s too good to keep to your self!”
And so it all began for “Big Al” Abronzino and his family in 1993. Al had been in the grocery business for several years working for Alpha-Beta, Fry’s and Safeway grocery stores in California, and had a working knowledge of the industry. Armed with only one flavor, his original Jamaican Jerk sauce, Marinade Bay Cooking and Grilling Sauces, was born.
And now, 18 years later, Marinade Bay offers over 30 flavors of marinades and cooking and grilling sauces, and can be found in grocery and specialty stores throughout the United States and Canada. Last year, the company shipped over a quarter million cases of its 8 ounce bottles, and more than 50,000 cases of its one gallon bottles.

In 1993, Abronzino says, “I decided to go out on my own.” It was a struggle, he says, until the Jamaican Jerk hot and mild sauces he was representing caught the eye of Whole Foods. That success resulted in a request to come up with other varieties for the chain of more than 300 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
